The L293D is a dual-channel H-bridge motor driver designed and produced by STMicroelectronics. It is intended to be used in robotics and automation applications. It is a useful addition to microcontrollers, as it allows them to drive two DC motors simultaneously and in both directions, without damaging them. The device can also be used to operate solenoid valves or relays via a PNP transistor or an NPN transistor. It includes various protection features, such as under-voltage lockout and over-temperature protection for improved stability and safety. The L293D can either be powered from an external supply voltage or the logic supply voltage. It is capable of outputting up to 600mA for each channel.
