The Intel 6051 is an 8-bit single-chip microcontroller launched by Intel in 1980. It was part of the MCS-51 family of microcontrollers and was designed specifically for embedded applications. The 6051 featured a large set of peripherals, including 4k of program memory, 128 bytes of RAM, two timer/counters, a serial interface, and 8-bit I/O ports, all in a 28-pin package. It was also the first microcontroller to include both a Harvard architecture and commercially available assembly language programming tools. The 6051 and its descendants remained popular throughout the 1980s, and are still sold by various vendors today.
