The ST72F63BK6M1 microcontroller is used for USB enumeration and to control the SD pin of the L6924. In USB mode, the battery-charging current complies with high-power USB device specifications. The L6924 is powered by 5 V from the USB, thus charging the battery also by USB. A general-purpose adaptor socket is also available for use when external power is available. In this case, the L6924 operates completely independent of the microcontroller.
