The E6B2-CWZ5B-500 0.5M part of Omron is a rotary encoder. It is a digital incrementing/decrementing device that is used to measure displacement or position. It consists of a disk with evenly spaced tracks on it which is connected to an output shaft. When the shaft rotates, the tracks move past a fixed set of sensors that sense the movement of the tracks and output a series of pulses. This data is then converted into an electronic signal that can be used to determine the position or displacement of the encoder. The E6B2-CWZ5B-500 0.5M part from Omron has a 500-pulse output and is able to operate within -25°C to +60°C temperature range.
