magnetic starter The H79 Furnas magnetic starter is an electrically operated switching device used for controlling electric motors and other electrical loads. It consists of an electrical contactor with three normally open contacts and one normally closed contact, and a coil, which is energized when the contactor is closed. When the coil is energized, it creates a magnetic field which causes a small armature to move. This armature is connected to a different set of normally closed contacts. When the armature is moved, the contacts open, allowing electrical current to flow to the motor. In this way, the H79 Furnas magnetic starter operates as a safety device, preventing electric motors and other electrical loads from starting up and running until the coil is energized.
