19-5857 Rev 2 1/12 E V A L U A T I O N K I T A V A I L A B L E MAX16929 Automotive TFT-LCD Power Supply with Boost Converter and Gate Voltage Regulators General Description Features The MAX16929 is a highly integrated power supply for S Operating Voltage Range of 4V to 28V (Buck) or automotive TFT-LCD applications. The device integrates 3V to 5.5V (Boost) one buck converter, one boost converter, one 1.8V/3.3V S Independent 28V Input Buck Converter Powers regulator controller, and two gate voltage regulators. TFT Bias Supply Circuitry and External Circuitry The device comes in several versions to satisfy com- S High-Power (Up to 6W) Boost Output Providing Up mon automotive power-supply requirements (see the to 18V Ordering Information/Selector Guide table). S 1.8V or 3.3V Regulator Provides 500mA with Designed to operate from a single 4V to 28V supply or External npn Transistor 5.5V to 28V supply, the device is ideal for automotive S One Positive-Gate Voltage Regulator Capable of TFT-LCD applications. Delivering 20mA at 28V Both the buck and boost converters use spread-spec- S One Negative-Gate Voltage Regulator trum modulation to reduce peak interference and to opti- mize EMI performance. S High-Frequency Operation 2.1MHz (Buck Converter) The sequencing input (SEQ) allows flexible sequencing 2.2MHz (Boost Converter) of the positive-gate and negative-gate voltage regulators. The power-good indicator (PGOOD) indicates a failure S Flexible Stand-Alone Sequencing on any of the converters or regulator outputs. Integrated S True Shutdown Boost Converter thermal shutdown circuitry protects the device from over- S 6A Low-Current Shutdown Mode (Buck) heating. S Internal Soft-Start The MAX16929 is available in a 28-pin TSSOP pack- age with exposed pad, and operates over the -40NC to S Overtemperature Shutdown +105NC temperature range.
