19-5818 Rev 0 3/11 MAX14586/MAX14590 High-Current Overvoltage Protectors with Adjustable OVLO General Description Benefits and Features The MAX14586/MAX14590 overvoltage protection devic- S Protect High-Power Portable Devices es feature a low 48mI (typ) on-resistance (R ) internal Wide Operating Input Voltage Protection ON FET and protect low-voltage systems against voltage from +2.2V to +36V faults up to +36V. When the input voltage exceeds the 3A Continuous Current Capability overvoltage threshold, the internal FET is turned off to Integrated 40mI (typ) n-Channel MOSFET prevent damage to the protected components. Switch The overvoltage protection threshold can be adjusted S Flexible Overvoltage Protection Design with optional external resistors to any voltage between Adjustable Overvoltage Protection Trip Level 4V and 20V. With the OVLO input set below the exter- Wide Adjustable OVLO Threshold Range nal OVLO select voltage, the devices automatically from +4V to +20V choose the internal accurate trip thresholds. The internal Preset Internal Accurate OVLO overvoltage thresholds (OVLO) are preset to 7V typical Thresholds: (MAX14586) or 15V typical (MAX14590). The devices are 7V 2.9% (MAX14586) also protected against overcurrent events by an internal 15V 3.3% (MAX14590) thermal shutdown. S Additional Protection Features Increase System The MAX14586/MAX14590 are offered in a small, 8-pin Reliability TDFN package with exposed pad and operate over the Soft-Start to Minimize In-Rush Current -40NC to +85NC extended temperature range.
