's Republic
C-3044-9 is a section of Plato's Republic, in which Socrates explains the need for strict acculturation of the guardians of the city in the state he is describing. In this section, Socrates explains that educating the guardians is necessary to ensure that they remain virtuous, since knowledge will enable them to determine the difference between good and evil, and promote the well-being of society. He goes on to say that the guardians need to possess the knowledge of the four sciences of Dialectic, Astronomy, Mathematics, and Harmonics in order to represent the ideal of wisdom.
