The SN74HC595DR is an 8-bit shift register manufactured by Texas Instruments. It is a storage device used to store data in the form of binary values. It is a dual-in-line package (DIP) consisting of eight data output lines, two clock inputs (CLK and CLK’), and a parallel-load input line. It has a synchronous, non-gated CLK which continuously shifts the data stored in the register right. It also features two modes of operation, either “shift” or “parallel-load.” In the shift mode all eight data output lines (Q0-Q7) continuously shift out data one bit at a time every time when the CLK input transitions from low-to-high. In the parallel-load mode, the data stored in the corresponding registers is loaded in parallel based on the value on the parallel-load input line (PL). The SN74HC595DR is ideal for applications that require fast way to store and retrieve data.
