MAX17030/MAX17036 19-4577 Rev 1 8/09 1/2/3-Phase Quick-PWM IMVP-6.5 VID Controllers General Description Features Triple/Dual-Phase Quick-PWM Controllers The MAX17030/MAX17036 are 3/2-phase interleaved Quick-PWM step-down VID power-supply controllers 2 Internal Drivers + 1 External Driver for IMVP-6.5 notebook CPUs. Two integrated drivers and 0.5% V Accuracy Over Line, Load, and OUT the option to drive a third phase using an external driver Temperature such as the MAX8791 allow for a flexible 3/2-phase con- 7-Bit IMVP-6.5 DAC figuration depending on the CPU being supported. Dynamic Phase Selection Optimizes Active/Sleep True out-of-phase operation reduces input ripple-current Efficiency requirements and output-voltage ripple while easing Transient Phase Overlap Reduces Output component selection and layout difficulties. The Quick- Capacitance PWM control provides instantaneous response to fast Transient Suppression Feature (MAX17036 Only) load-current steps. Active voltage positioning reduces power dissipation and bulk output capacitance require- Integrated Boost Switches ments and allows ideal positioning compensation for tan- Active Voltage Positioning with Adjustable Gain talum, polymer, or ceramic bulk output capacitors. Accurate Lossless Current Balance and The MAX17030/MAX17036 are intended for bucking Current Limit down the battery directly to create the core voltage.
