's failure - ATR-2485 of Manson's failure was the ruling in the 1970 trial of Manson and three other defendants for the murders of seven people in California. The jury found Manson and his co-defendants guilty and sentenced them to death. Judge Older changed the sentence to life in prison without parole after the California Supreme Court overturned a ruling that held the death penalty unconstitutional. This ruling ushered in an end to the Manson "Family" killings – an era of terror that lasted nearly two years and caused lasting damage to the victims’ families. The guilty verdict, handed down by Judge Older, was widely seen as the final nail in the coffin for the Manson family's reign of terror and ensured that Manson and the other three defendants would remain behind bars without the possibility of parole.
