MAX1221/MAX1223/MAX1343 19-4010 Rev 1 12/07 12-Bit, Multichannel ADCs/DACs with FIFO, Temperature Sensing, and GPIO Ports General Description Features The MAX1221/MAX1223/MAX1343 integrate a multichan- 12-Bit, 225ksps ADC Analog Multiplexer with True-Differential nel, 12-bit, analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a 12-bit, Track/Hold (T/H) digital-to-analog converter (DAC) in a single IC. The 12 Single-Ended Channels or Six Differential devices also include a temperature sensor and config- Channels (Unipolar or Bipolar) (MAX1223) urable general-purpose I/O ports (GPIOs) with a 25MHz Eight Single-Ended Channels or Four Differential SPI-/QSPI-/MICROWIRE-compatible serial inter- Channels (Unipolar or Bipolar) face. The ADC is available in a 12 or an eight input-chan- (MAX1221/MAX1343) nel version. The DAC outputs settle within 2.0s, and the Excellent Accuracy: 0.5 LSB INL, 0.5 LSB DNL ADC has a 225ksps conversion rate. 12-Bit, Octal, 2s Settling DAC All devices include an internal reference (2.5V) providing (MAX1221/MAX1223) a well-regulated, low-noise reference for both the ADC Ultra-Low Glitch Energy (4nVs) and DAC. Programmable reference modes for the ADC Power-Up Options from Zero Scale or Full Scale and DAC allow the use of an internal reference, an exter- Excellent Accuracy: 0.5 LSB INL nal reference, or a combination of both. Features such as Internal Reference or External Single-Ended/ an internal 1C accurate temperature sensor, FIFO, Differential Reference scan modes, programmable internal or external clock Internal Reference Voltage 2.5V modes, data averaging, and AutoShutdown allow users Internal 1C Accurate Temperature Sensor to minimize both power consumption and processor requirements. The low glitch energy (4nVs) and low digi- On-Chip FIFO Capable of Storing 16 ADC Conversion Results and One Temperature Result tal feedthrough (0.5nVs) of the integrated DACs make these devices ideal for digital control of fast-response On-Chip Channel-Scan Mode and Internal closed-loop systems. Data-Averaging Features The devices are guaranteed to operate with a supply volt- Analog Single-Supply Operation age from +2.7V to +5.25V. The devices consume 2.5mA +2.7V to +5.25V at 225ksps throughput, only 22A at 1ksps throughput, 2.7V to AV Digital Supply DD and under 0.2A in the shutdown mode. The MAX1221/ 25MHz, SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE Serial Interface MAX1343 offer four GPIOs that can be configured as AutoShutdown Between Conversions inputs or outputs. Low-Power ADC The MAX1221/MAX1223/MAX1343 are available in 36-pin 2.5mA at 225ksps thin QFN packages.
